Abstract

Feed is the main component in livestock industry, and contributes 70% of the total farming cost. Agriculture by-product is one of the alternative feed ingredients for goat feed. The width of cocoa estates in Indonesia in period 2003-2007 shows the highest improvements (43,5 %) than other commodity estates, thus cocoa estates have integrated prospect with livestock industry. Cocoa husk is the most waste of cocoa (73,77 %) and contains raw protein and energy which is not too different with kinggrass, so can substitute green feed more than half. The potential of livestock integrated with the cocoa estates ha a good prospect on the public estate’s development. Cocoa estate has a good prospect to support the integrated with goat farming, however it need s a real concept of the integrated program that work sustainable. The potency of cocoa estate has carrying capacity of 6.05 head goats for 1 hectare area. This is based on the need of the feed from cocoahusk of 1.5 kg/head/day.Keywords : cocoa waste, goat feed

Abstract

The using of pesticides for agricultural pest control usually directed to plants, whereas almost of them are fall into soil. In the soil, the pesticides are very dinamics in concentration, because of several processes occur, such as chemical, and microbial processes. There are a tend that the pesticide have bad impact within the soil for crops production, especially the pesticides which have persistent active ingredient. For this reason, therefore are needed some particular soil managementin order to reduce or overcome the bad impact of pesticides in the soil. The some particular soil management are: soil tillage, using of organic matter, limming, irrigation, and application of microbial technique.Key words : pesticide, pollution

Abstract

Waste water utilization in palm oil mills (POMs) in Indonesia is limited only for land application and in some palm oil mills the waste water is unutilized and it is only discharged to a river. The technology of methane gas utilization produced from waste water have been developed, unfortunately economical barrier is a big problem to implement it in the POMs. Since Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) have been being introducing in Indonesia, many foreign investors who looking for Certified Emission Reduction (CER) visit and investigate potential reductions in Indonesia. Using CDM Mechanism, it will change feasibility of an activity of methane gas capture. An income from selling CER makes theeconomical feasibility of methane gas capture increase. The purpose of this study is to investigate the potential methane gas produced in waste water pond in all POM owned by PTPN V, located in Riau Province. Area of own plantation, amount of processed (Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB) and distance of the location are proposed as a consideration for selecting candidate locations. The potentialmethane gas captured was calculated. It was known that four POMs have a potential methane gas amount produced from waste water pond, and the investment in those locations were feasible based on the NPV calculation result. Utilization of captured methane gas as a fuel for power generation is inconsiderate, because negotiation is predicted will be takes a long time.Key words: green house gasses, palm oil mill, empty fruit bunch, fresh fruit bunch, palm mill oil effluent, clean development mechanism

Abstract

Soil erosion is a major factor leading to cause land damage in the upstream region. Therefore, erosion control should be done in the preservation of land resources and the environment can be maintained and the welfare of farmers can be improved. Land Ultisol widespread in many Kalimatan Islands, ultisol soil types other than guilty of fertility, soil types have the property ultisol easy erosion. As a result of coal mining activities carried out by PT KPC lead to peeling layers of top soil to the depth of rock. This stripping has directly changed the soil condition. Ultisol soil physical conditions in Kalimanan (available water capacity, density lumps, texture, structure, pore space and permeability of the soil) are relatively low, so they need to improve theaddition of organic materials, and lime. The process of reclamation of former coal mining PT. KPC has been done very well. The analysis of fertility levels and the amount of potential soil erosion occurs indicates that the post-miningrehabilitation revegetation way to post-mining land with the procedure referred. It can be seen from the parameters of soil fertility and erosion rates of post-mining land have been rehabilitated (56.5614 erosion rates tons/hectare/year) with areas of pristine forests (erosion rates 52.175 tons/hectare/year) were not show significant changes. Keywords: ultisol, rehabilitation, physical soil, erosion

Abstract

Water at the supercritical state is a new process for the chemical recycling. At this thermodynamic state i.e. Pc = 218 atmospheres and Tc = 374oC , water behaves very differently from its everyday temperament and it is a very good solvent for organic components. Experimental studies show that supercritical water can decompose hydrocarbons/polymers and produce useful products like 2-Azacyclotridecanone /lactam-1 from Nylon-12 (batch process). The decomposition process itself was carried out in batch reaction system in order to get more information about product distributions, time dependence, and scale-up possibilities. Keywords: supercritical water, decomposition, batch, polymer, hydrocarbon

Abstract

Since 1977 until 2005, PT. ANTAM has been exploited nickel ore resources at Gebe Island – Center of Halmahera District – North Maluku Province. Mining activity not only gives economically advantages, but also causes degradation of environment quality especially land quality. Therefore, it needs evaluation activity for land quality changing at Gebe Island after the mining activity (postmining). For handling Gebe Island after mining activity needs identification of the problems, potential and obstacles as the basic for arranging development strategy of Gebe Island. This research used Focused Group Discussion (FGD) method, desk study and field survey. Base on this research the important think has to be done, are : (a) to make or open new market at surround Gebe Island; (b) development Gebe Island has be base on locally resources and export oriented; (c ) needinvestor as prime mover in Gebe Island; (d) optimize of PT ANTAM’s asset; (e) increase institution coordination and program integration.Key words : sustainable development, post mining
